SUMMARY:Management of ACL Injury Rehabilitation: from Pre-Op to Return to Sport
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview:\nInjury to knee ligament stabilisers and especially the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) can be devastating for both elite and recreational athletes. The management and decision making around the requirement for surgery can be difficult\, there is a long period of rehabilitation and long-term implications including ongoing vulnerability\, risk of re-injury\, performance decrements and future knee joint health. Optimising the initial and on-going management of these injuries requires specialist skills in rehabilitation\, strength and conditioning and physiological support to the process of recovery and return to performance. Including both physical and nutritional strategies is therefore essential to optimise athlete health\, target residual deficits and fully prepare athletes for their future competition demands. \nThis ISEH Learning course explores a multi-disciplinary approach in treating\, rehabilitating and recovering from ACL injuries to optimise an athlete’s return to sport. This course is split into three sections detailing how physiotherapy\, strength & conditioning\, and nutrition can work effectively together to support an athlete’s recovery from an ACL injury. \nAthletes (both elite & recreational) differ in their injury types\, their sports\, positions and styles of play\, but also in their biomechanics and physiology. Hence a ‘one-size fits all’ approach is often unsuccessful and effective rehabiliation requires an individualised programme. This workshop aims to assist clinicians to optimise their athletes’ rehabilitation through gaining a better understanding of how physiotherapy\, S&C and nutrition can contribute through the rehabilitation process. \nThis course combines both theoretical and practical learning led by three leading ISEH clinicians with backgrounds in physiotherapy\, strength & conditioning\, and nutrition who have worked extensively with elite and recreational athletes from across a range of sports in recovering from ACL injuries and returning to sport. \nThis workshop is split into 3 different sections: Part 1 examines initial management and optimising treatment and management during pre-operative\, perioperative\, early and mid-rehabilitation stages. Part 2 examines residual deficits following ACL injury\, how to assess them and design targeted strategies to optimise return to sport readiness. Part 3 is focused on performance nutrition for the prevention and recovery from injury and how tailored nutrition plans and multi-disciplinary collaboration can optimise an athlete’s recovery and return to play. \nLocation:\nISEH\, 170 Tottenham Court Road\, London W1T 7HA \nAgenda:\nFind out more and secure your place here.

SUMMARY:Breathing to win! ISEH workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our next all-day Breathing to Win ISEH practical workshop\, designed for clinicians seeking to enhance their abilities in assessing\, managing\, and optimising breathing performance in athletes. This ISEH Learning workshop will delve into the differential diagnosis of Asthma\, BPD\, and Exercise-Induced Laryngeal Obstruction (EILO). Participants will gain valuable insights on recognising\, assessing\, and effectively managing breathing issues in athletes. \nLearning Objectives\nBy the end of this workshop learners will be able to: \n1) Learn how to recognise dysfunctional breathing (DB) /maladaptive breathing patterns and to assess this issue in the context of other diagnoses such as asthma. \n2) To be familiar with the typical symptoms of DB & Exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO). \n3) Gain confidence in recognising DB & Exercise Induced Laryngeal Obstruction. \n4) To help an athlete understand what optimal breathing is and how it can improve performance and recovery \n5) To maintain and keep the athlete engaged in their breathing rehabilitation. \n6) Gain an understanding of laryngeal function and how to prevent EILO. \nTime: 9:00am – 5pm \nPrice: £199 (plus third party booking fees – by Eventbrite) \nRegister here \nLocation:\nInstitute of Sport Exercise & Health\, London (in person) 170 Tottenham Court Road\, London W1T 7HA
